Emily’s Approach to Therapy

Oftentimes, the demands of daily life require us to prioritize external responsibilities over our internal experiences and relationships with others. We are not always afforded the opportunity to slow down and reconnect with these important aspects of our lives.

For that reason, I like to think of the therapy space as a place where we can slow down and explore whatever you need at your own pace–whether that means processing emotions, exploring past experiences, gaining new insight, or finding ways to build and nurture meaningful connections.

We are not meant to navigate life alone. Together, we can explore new ways to deepen your connection with yourself and the people who matter most, strengthen your resilience, and move towards a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling to you.

Therapeutic Modalities

I take an integrative approach and tailor interventions to your specific needs and preferences. Most of which include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

  • Mindfulness-Based Interventions

Therapy with me is collaborative, and grounded in curiosity, openness, and compassion. Growth often involves stepping outside of your comfort zone, so I hope to gently encourage and support you in navigating those areas of growth while remaining attentive to your needs and moving at a pace that feels right for you.

Why did you choose this profession

It was a mix of my genuine curiosity about people and my desire to become someone who could support others in their journey towards healing and self-growth, while also helping them feel less alone along the way. As someone who’s had experiences of feeling misunderstood, judged, and alone in my struggles, I became drawn to the idea of creating a safe space for others. I wanted to develop the capacity to sit alongside people in their struggles so that they have a place where they feel understood, accepted, and less alone.

What do you find most meaningful about the work you do

The most meaningful part of the work for me is being able to see my clients grow over time, and continue to learn and grow alongside them. I see it as both a privilege and honour to be welcomed into someone’s healing journey and to be part of that process.

How I bring my lived experiences to my work

Over the years, I have come to understand and appreciate not only the importance of emotional acceptance, but also the healing power of community and relationships. Growing up in a collectivist culture and an immigrant family has shaped my understanding of how our connections influence who we are, and how learning to navigate them can be a vital part of the healing process.
